Baculite Specimen - CGSS13

Baculite section from the Bearpaw Formation of Southern Alberta, covered in large plates of red, pink, orange, gold, green and blue ammolite separated by dark suture lines.

Photographed on an acrylic display stand.

Baculites were straight-shelled relatives of the coiled ammonites. Their ammolite tends to form in broad plates divided by the shell's suture lines, which gives baculite pieces their patchwork look.

One of a kind.
